Urgent appeal to United Nations, National governments,
Human Rights Organisations and all individuals, organisations, corporations and media
involved in music.
During the conference it has been documented that numerous
governments and political and religious groups in the World Community are violating the
rights of freedom of expression for musicians, songwriters, lyricists, and composers.
These violations include censorship, banning, physical and
mental abuse, imprisonment and even assassination.
As specified in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression. This right includes the
freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information
and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers.
As a result of the conference we are establishing a
network to defend the rights of musicians within the spirit of the UN Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
We ask for your support to bring violations of their
fundamental rights of freedom of expression to the widest possible international attention
and to dedicate yourself, along with us, to the eradication of these forms of human rights
abuse
Appeal to the Danish
government
The 1st World conference on Music and censorship
documented that numerous governments, political and religious groups in the World
Community are violating the rights of freedom of expression for musicians, songwriters,
lyricists, and composers.
These violations include censorship, banning, physical and
mental abuse, imprisonment and even assassination.
We want to thank the Danish government for making this
first conference possible and we appeal to the government to support the establishing of a
centre that can :
-document violations of musicians right to freedom of
expression.
-link grups and individuals all over the world fighting
the violations.
We also appeal to the government to support our attempt to
create an international organisation that on the lines of PEN can support musicians that
are censored, banned and threatened.
